It was indeed a historic moment for the Award in Nepal when HRH Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh presented the first Duke of Edinburgh International Gold Award in Nepal to Snehesh Shrestha from Shuvatara School in 2000.

When Rani Gurung Kakshpati, the Principal of Shuvatara School presented the bouquet of flowers, Prince Philip jokingly remarked, "Oh you must have a beautiful garden." I am sure the world remembers many of his wits and humour which will be greatly missed.
