My bother and i both completed our Gold awards in the 1960s. We had been scouting and guiding and had undertaken car maintence on our respective 1930s Austin 7s.
As the FIRST brother and sister to complete the award we were approached by a national newspaper to take photos of us at home and on The Mall.we were also filmed by the BBC.
We were individually presented to the Duke to receive our awards in the Ballroom of Buckingham Palace.
I subsequently met him on 3 other occasions whilst with young people who were on the award journey. He was always jovial with the young people and put them at ease. He leaves a strong legacy.
