I participated in the DofE award at Epsom College, UK in the mid 1970s. I can still recall the three day hiking expedition in Snowdonia, the greatest challenge I had done. As part of the Award I learnt beekeeping which fostered my lifelong interest in Entomology. Prior to this scheme I was restricted by health issues but through this scheme I found I could do far more than I realized and helped me develop a deep love for the outdoors. I believe the Duke of Edinburgh Award will be one of the greatest legacies of Prince Philip and will continue to inspire young people for decades to come. I now live in Australia but still have my badge and will wear it in respect to his passing.
