I started as a leader of volunteer Police Cadets by necessity rather by choice and dreaded the thought.
However within a very short time I could see the improvement in our Cadets which are recruited from the local community with 25% being from disadvantaged backgrounds, I also began to enjoy my position as a leader eventually becoming unit leader.
I have thoroughly enjoyed being involved in the DofE process with our cadets, and I've become an accredited assessor The DofE has had a positive impact on our young people with them coming out of their shells and becoming part of a team reliant on each other especially whilst on expedition in the Brecon Beacons, I have seen the most unlikely friendships blossom and the experiences and lessons learned will stay with us all for life.
During the past year during the pandemic myself and my colleague have taken our group on walks, teaching map reading skills etc in readiness for when we will be able to resume expeditions.
