I was fortunate to first meet HRH The Duke of Edinburgh at the age of 18 where he presented me with my DoE Gold Award. I can thank the Award scheme for providing me with the confidence, skills and motivation to embark on the life of my choosing. I can say honestly that I would not have achieved any of the things I have done without that lift in life early on. It was the Duke’s vision and dedication to service that has enabled many millions of young people around the world to do the same. I shall be forever grateful for the opportunity that the Award scheme has provided.
