Having achieved my Gold in 1981 and knowing the fantastic experiences I gained, the privilege of putting it on a C.V. and the unbelievable sense of achievement I encouraged my 2 daughters to do it. My older one was stretched to do her Bronze, but has never looked back. My younger one is outdoor and is now doing Gold, having completed her Bronze and silver. When both were involved, I realised how much support was needed. Without getting too close to what they were doing as individuals, I became a volunteer.
A scheme I would encourage any young person to do.
It makes for proud parents and a life time achievement, recognised by employers.
The Duke of Edinburgh probably had no idea of the impact it has had on just our family, let alone all the other participants. He will be missed and we send our grateful thanks to him and our thoughts and prayers to his family for the loss of a very dear man who has done so much for the young people.
