My memories of my Duke of Edinburgh award journey are many but two which stand out were when I learnt the ancient skill of dry stone walling, something very particular to my Lake District home and when I spent a year working at my local community garden, maintaining the grounds, tending to the crops and apple trees and assisting the site manager.
I learnt new skills, I helped others less fortunate than me and I helped to maintain our environment by keeping alive rural crafts. Most of all though I now have attributes to use for the rest of my life that I only gained through my participation in the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme.
