I completed my physical for my gold DofE in 2013, in Belize; hiking out of the Chiquibul rainforest.
10 of us from Wick High School raised £31,288 in one year for our 4 week trip of a life time to Belize where we were to complete our physical for our DofE.
The hike pushed me mentally and physically further than I thought possible. It’s changed my life in ways I never imagined. When times get tough in my life, both physically and mentally, and I feel that I’m at my limit; I think back to my physical DofE. I tell myself that if I can hike 41 miles out of a tropical rainforest and camp in torrential rain, accompanied with deadly spiders and snakes; I can do anything that I put my mind to.
My absolute highlight from my gold duke of Edinburgh is completing the physical section in Belize, and sitting down to dinner on the Chiquibul rainforest floor on day 3 of the hike to MINCE AND TATTIES! Thank you for everything Irene and Ally from AdventuraScotland: our incredible DofE leaders.
