My Duke of Edinburgh journey was an experience I will always remember and look back on with fond memories. I gained not only friendships but skills I will continue to use in my life. I completed my Bronze, Silver and Gold expeditions with Girlguiding Scotland. I was very apprehensive at the beginning as I was joining a group of people I didn’t know and who didn’t know me, I was pushed outside of my comfort zone and improved my confidence working as part of a team to plan our expeditions. I chose to canoe for my Silver and Gold expeditions, one of the challenges we faced was canoeing in different weather conditions. We experienced canoeing in strong winds, rain and also sunshine. We had to work as a team tying our canoe’s together to keep safe and stay in our group. We used maps and compass’ to plan our routes and worked together to come up with a time plan to ensure we made our destinations. I was always supported by my leader who encouraged and supported me to keep going. Duke of Edinburgh taught me to stay committed and motivated in order to achieve, I have learnt to believe in my abilities and say yes to new opportunities. I am proud to have completed my Bronze, Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh awards.
