Young people have told us they don’t feel listened to when it comes to the major issues and decisions that shape our world. We spoke to more than 3,000 young people from across the UK for Youth Voices 2024 – giving them a platform to share their hopes, worries and priorities for the future.

Our research shows that young people are driven by global issues like climate change and human rights, but worry more about local issues such as housing costs, the economy, and the NHS. They are politically engaged, primarily through social media, and comfortable sharing their views – but, importantly, feel unheard by and disconnected from politicians.

Our new Government has a chance to change that. That’s why we’re calling for all MPs to back a Youth Pledge, committing to introduce a clear process putting youth voice representation at all levels of policy and decision-making, especially on issues that impact young people.

In this report, you’ll find an honest look at how young people view the world’s most pressing challenges. You’ll read about their hopes and fears – but, most importantly, you’ll understand why giving young people a voice is so crucial for progress. The leaders of today need to open their minds to the leaders of tomorrow. It’s time to make youth voices heard.

Our opinions should not be dismissed because of our age; we should be given a chance to express our discontent with something affecting our own lives. Any outlet for young people to engage in constructive debate at school, locally or get in touch with people who can make a difference is a powerful outlet.
